Check the fingerprint in PowerShell: Get-FileHash .\NoiseWall-Setup-1.2.2.exe – it must match the value above (also in NoiseWall-Setup-1.2.2.exe.sha256).
Digital signature
The installer, the program, the service and the modules are signed by NOISE ARTILLERY s. r. o. (a Microsoft Artifact Signing certificate with a timestamp). During installation Windows shows the verified publisher NOISE ARTILLERY s. r. o. You can check the signature yourself: right-click the file → Properties → Digital Signatures. If the signature is missing or belongs to someone else, the file does not come from us – do not install it.
For a new version Windows SmartScreen may still show a warning for a while, until the version gains reputation.
What the installation does
- Installs the NoiseWall service (it guards the network), the window and the guide into
Program Files\NoiseWall. - Allows only what Windows itself needs (IP address, DNS, time); it asks about the rest.
- Sends nothing about you. It connects by itself to only two places, both can be turned off: once a day it downloads the list of dangerous networks (Spamhaus) and checks on this website whether a new version is out.
- It installs a new version only when you click, and only if it is digitally signed by NOISE ARTILLERY s. r. o. and matches the signed list of versions.
- Uninstalling removes the service and all filters – the network works as before.
Before installing
Read First steps in the guide. If you use another third-party firewall (for example simplewall), turn it off before installing.
